Baptist Women in Ministry Month of Advocacy
Throughout the month of March, we will join with Baptist Women in Ministry to advocate and celebrate women in leadership throughout Baptist life and beyond.
We will do this in several ways:
Get your BINGO card online or in the back of the sanctuary. How many squares can you complete? Go for BINGO or cover your card! Turn in your completed BINGO card at the back of the sanctuary for a special prize.
Throughout history, women’s voices have been silenced in an effort to maintain the status quo. The Book of Longings written by Sue Monk Kidd tells the inspiring fictional story of Ana, Jesus’s wife, and her bold struggle to realize the passion and potential inside her, while living in a time, place, and culture devised to silence her. This imaginative work is grounded in meticulous historical research and takes a reverential approach to Jesus’s life that focuses on his humanity.
This book will help us imagine our way through Jesus’s life all the way up to the events of Holy Week as we encounter fictional characters and familiar people in the Biblical story in a creative way that makes the scripture come alive and challenges us all to consider the longings God has placed on our own hearts.
We will gather for a meal and conversation on Thursday, March 14 at 6 pm to discuss the book.
Are you tired of the culture wars? Are you concerned about the erosion of the public good and public institutions in this country? Do you care about justice, equity, inclusion, and community? Are you troubled by our public discourse but also seeking to resist despair? Do you see a disconnect between the Christian faith and its public resonance in this city? If so, these 2nd Thursday Lunches are for you.
Every Second Thursday of the month, at Second Baptist Church in downtown Little Rock, we will cater a luncheon and host a conversation about some public good or issue that matters. These conversations will be educational, inspirational, and challenging. We will discuss difficult issues with grace, fairness, and inclusion, with those who are leaders in their fields.
These lunches will be held from Noon-1:15 every second Thursday of the month. Lunch will be $10/person.
Throughout the month of March we will post “Profiles in Courage”—interviews featuring the leaders of our Ministry Partners, courageous women who are making our community better.
These profiles will be posted on our blog throughout the month of March.
Throughout the month of March, various women in leadership at 2BC will share why they said yes to serving at Second. You will find these brief testimonies on our Facebook and Instagram stories. At the end of the month, they will be compiled into a blog post for those who do not use social media.
This year we have invited women and men to reflect on women in ministry and the ways their faith has been shaped by the women in their lives.
These reflections will be posted on our blog throughout the month of March.
