Rev. David Freeman of First United Methodist Church, Rev. Preston Clegg of Second Baptist Church, and Rev. Kate Alexander of Christ Episcopal Church have been wrestling with what it means to be Christian these days. They may not have all the answers, but since our churches are neighbors, we thought these were conversations worth having together.
This fall, Three Pastors Walk Into a Bar returns for three more gatherings centered around the question: What will save us? Politics? Money? Military? Grace?
David, Preston, and Kate will begin each gathering with conversation around the day’s topic, then open it up for questions and reflections. We’ll rotate among our three churches, so bring a brown-bag lunch and join us for an informal time of conversation, connection, and getting to know our neighbors.

What are we saved from? We’ll explore the things that diminish life—scarcity, loneliness, irrelevancy, suffering, and the end of life—and ask what actually brings life.
Monday, September 28 @ Second Baptist Church
What are we saved to? We’ll explore how our different denominations understand salvation and what those beliefs mean for the way we live.
Monday, October 5 @ Christ Episcopal Church
What are we saved with? We’ll look beyond salvation as simply what happens after we die and explore what salvation looks like in our lives here and now.
The name may sound like the beginning of an old joke, but that’s intentional! We want these gatherings to feel informal and welcoming—more like talking with friends around a table than attending a lecture. Come meet our church neighbors, ask good questions, and join us for some holy conversation as together we experience God’s grace and discover a compelling hope.
