Our Mission Philosophy
Second Baptist is active in our community and the world. We believe that the world can’t be what God intended it to be unless we all pitch in and use the gifts he has given us. We believe that social justice and evangelism go hand-n-hand. We believe that telling the good news of Jesus goes hand-in-hand with living the good news.
At Second Baptist we break mission into three spheres.
The closest sphere is right here in Little Rock.
We seek to be good neighbors by supporting the businesses and residents of downtown. We minister to homeless families by hosting Family Promise four times a year and by giving them office space rent-free. We tutor kids in reading weekly at MLK Elementary. We ring bells for the Salvation Army. We provide opportunities for worship, education, recreation, and sanctuary at the Lake Nixon Outdoor Center. The list of what we do right here in Little Rock goes on and on.
Our second sphere is in Helena, Arkansas
where we support the work of Together for Hope. We have a yearly school supply drive to ensure that students have the supplies they need. We regularly send folks there to help with everything from swim camps to construction to the Stories on Wheels bus.
Our third sphere is South Africa.
We’ve had a partnership with Door of Hope and Refilwe since 2008. Yearly we send teams there to support their work. We’ve participated in everything construction, to children’s camps, to rocking babies. We’ve also had our partners visit here on multiple occasions
