Foremothers of our Faith
June 8

Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Saint Mark’s Episcopal, and Second Baptist Church Downtown are hosting a film festival entitled, “Foremothers of our Faith,” celebrating women in ministry on June 8th. This film festival will feature 2 documentaries: The Philadelphia Eleven and Midwives of a Movement.

The Philadelphia Eleven documents the story of a group of women and their supporters who practice civil disobedience to organize their ordination to become Episcopal priest in 1974. The women were harassed, threatened, and banned from stepping on church property, and their story continues to challenge the essence of patriarchy within Christendom.

Midwives of a Movement chronicles the stories of the bold women who birthed a movement for greater visibility and opportunities for women in the Southern Baptist Convention. Despite great opposition, their courage blazed pathways for advancing women in ministry and leadership among Baptists.

This film festival will begin at 9:30 AM in Morrison Hall at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Following each screening will be a discussion on the documentary. Tickets for the event are $5 each and includes a box lunch. Please RSVP via the link HERE.
