Advocacy & Social Justice

Advocacy

Second Baptist heeds the call of Christ to fulfill the Great Commandment to love both God and our neighbor.

One of the ways we do so is through advocacy. Advocacy means “to summon” or to “call to one’s aid.” Much of our advocacy stems from our Convictions & Beliefs On Systemic Racism. When the occasion arises, you’ll find 2BC folks speaking in front of the legislature, attending rallies, calling their legislators and trying to love their neighborhood through good public policy! We avoid partisan entanglement while seeking to be politically engaged. We strive to act on the side of love, justice, and truth – wherever it is found.

Social Justice

Christians are called to strive for the common good.

We seek to love our neighbors, and to actively work to dismantle systems that have created inequality and sought to marginalize those who are vulnerable. As Cornel West once said, “Justice is what love looks like in public.” We play our part in helping create a society where everyone has an equal chance to thrive and succeed.
